Dutch king Willem-Alexander and his family wanted to go on vacation to Greece in the autumn vacations of 2020. Prime Minister Mark Rutte is also involved, as he bears the ministerial responsibility laid down in the constitution.
The family followed all the corona rules, they went to a "yellow" area, there was no group formation and therefore no increased risk in Greece. They were also able to isolate themselves well from other people because of their privileged position, namely they had a private plane and a large villa.
The vacation was widely criticized and the king and his family had to return almost as soon as they arrived. Because of the corona crisis it was advised against to travel abroad. The king has an exemplary function and was looked upon for ignoring this advice. The king was also accused of a lack of empathy and solidarity. Upon his return the king made a video in which he offered his apologies, in which he said he was shocked by the reactions.
In the autumn vacations of 2020 during the corona pandemic, the king wanted to go on vacation to Greece with his family. Stricter corona rules had just been announced and vacations were advised against, but what the king did was not forbidden. Yet the whole country fell over him and thought he was not living up to his role model and that this action showed a lack of solidarity and empathy.
