The municipality of Boxtel wanted to involve the opinion of inhabitants in the decision-making process about the financial future of the municipality. In this way, the municipality could find out which tasks the municipality should or should not take on in the future, according to the inhabitants.
On this subject, a survey was prepared with dozens of tricky questions and statements.
There was little response to the survey, only 353 residents responded. This is too little to give a representative picture; 2200 responses would have been needed. The new idea is to start discussions with residents and organisations about the financial plans of the municipality. Ideas could also be shared via mail, letters or a suggestion box.
The municipality of Boxtel wanted to use a survey to find out what its residents thought about the tasks and finances of the municipality in the future. The survey that was sent out was too long and complicated, which meant that there were far too few responses to give a representative picture. The municipality is now thinking of other solutions, such as entering into discussions with residents and companies and collecting ideas via, for example, a suggestion box.
