Because of the corona pandemic, many conferences and meetings had to take place online. An example of such an online event is an event that took place on October 27, 2020. This was organized by people in the event business and knowledge would be shared about online events during the event.
Good speakers were booked and around a thousand people registered for the meeting. Many people were enthusiastic about the nice features and were interested in the event. The pressure was on to get everything ready on 27 November and this became a major challenge.
When there were 400 people in the meeting the system collapsed. People couldn't get into the meeting anymore and started asking for new logins, which also didn't work because the mail server was also experiencing a glitch. Only for the 400 people who were already in the meeting, the event was a success. Because of all the problems, the organization organized a new event in February: The Digital Day After. People who could not get into the previous meeting were allowed to participate in this for free. During this event, people also talked about what had gone wrong during the previous event and other speakers were invited to talk about their failures. This event became a great success.
Because of the corona pandemic, many events had to move to online environments. One advantage of this is the elimination of travel time. Unfortunately, the events did not always run smoothly because they sometimes encountered technical difficulties. An example is an online event about online events, where more than half of the participants could not get into the meeting.
